Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation in Covington Township PA

How it works

TENS uses electrodes to produce a low-voltage electrical current for pain relief. Electrical stimulation to local nerves causes the brain to block pain signals and may help the body produce natural pain blockers known as ‘endorphins’.

What it treats:

  • Muscle spasm
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Fibromyalgia

Does it hurt?
Most patients find TENS therapy to feel very comfortable and describe the feeling as ‘tiny massaging fingers’. The intensity of the electric stimulation will always be at the tolerance of the patient.

A typical treatment
Two-four electrode pads will be placed over the area of compliant in combination of ice or moist heat. A treatment usually will last 10-15 minutes.
