Adjustment Techniques in Covington Township PA

Northeastern Chiropractic, of Covington Township Pennsylvania, offers a variety of adjusting techniques that are often used in combination during a typical treatment. Depending on the age and condition of the patient, modifications of the adjustment may be made.

Types of Adjustment Techniques

  • Diversified: Diversified is one of the most popular adjusting techniques used by chiropractors. The focus is on restoration of normal biomechanical function and correction of subluxation. In addition, Diversified methods have been developed to adjust extremity joints. Motion palpation and full spine hands-on techniques are used to deliver a deeper thrust, which may make an osseous (popping) sound as the adjustment is given.
  • Arthostim: An arthostim adjustment involves use of a handheld instrument. The arthostim delivers a high-velocity and low-amplitude mechanical thrust that is targeted to a small area of the spine, extremities, or soft tissue area. The force of the thrust radiates through the joint and the tissues that surround it easing the joints back into alignment, restoring biomechanical function, and releasing muscle tension. As opposed to diversified adjusting, the use of the arthostim does not cause the same popping and cracking noises in the joint. Its speed, gentleness and accuracy are recommended for populations that may have trouble with the use of traditional chiropractic techniques, such as children and the elderly.
  • Activator: The activator is similar to the arthostim instrument, but is an even gentler type of an adjustment. The activator will deliver one thrust at a time, compared to the continuous thrusting motion of 12 times per second of the arthostim. This is beneficial for patients who cannot tolerate the arthostim gun or for smaller joints of the body such as the TMJ.
  • Drop technique: The drop piece in the table will be set depending on your weight. The practitioner then places a contact hand on the segment being corrected. When a thrust is applied, the segment of the drop piece table drops gently which helps in removing the subluxation - the inflammation or disorder - by transferring the force by which the table is dropping to your joint.
